Back to medieval...

... back to the age of knights. This time "Raymond the Crusader"! Rider by Perry Miniatures, horse by Fireforge.

A Fireforge model. Painting the horse was a lot of fun because of the very good modelation.

... its a Perry Crusader riding a Fireforge horse. I had to convert the saddle in order to be able to place the model on the horse.

The left one's shield is a freehand. The right one's a decal.

I am not very pleased with both of them, but i can't say why. Maybe the colors of shield and cloth. Maybe something else.

I will cover both in 2nd line of the regiment :)

Perry Crusader spearmen

For betweentimes: A 28mm Perry Crusader spearmen. Based for SAGA, WAB, HC and all other singlebased games.

28mm Perry Crusaders

I rebased a knight element of my IV/19 Crusader army yesterday from my old to my new basing scheme. Take first a look to the old picture and compare it then with the new one. In my opinion the new scheme is more realistic. Hope you agree.

 

 

In Addition on the left of the second picture you can see an element of 1x3 Crossbows. I will use them as Venetian mercenary crossbows who supported the crusaders in the holy land against money and trade contracts. Pisean and Genoese Crossbows will be added in the future. Just as that i will add some shields to the crossbows as an forerunner of the pavise shields.On the shild i will try to paint the lion of Venice, Genoase red cross and the Pisean white cross. Hope you like it.

The three knights and the right crossbowmen are painted in my old style. the two crossbows on the left are painted in my new style.

DBA Early Crusader IV/7

The army on field...

... and in terrain and my glass cabinet:

I have made new pics and colseup's of the Early Crusaders IV/7! The key elements are the knights consisting of a general's element...

... 2x3 Knights, one elements Templars and Order of St. John, ...

... and one element French Crusaders. I gave this element my new base design in order to see which design looks better. Also shown is one element crossbows. Those came from Venice. The Lion of Venice can be seen on the shield!

The main part of the army is the infantry. 5x4 spear and 1x5 warband will hold the enemy in a postion in which the knights sound the death knell for every enemy! Yes, i know some of the figs are missing their spears. I take them off in order to replace with bigger spears!

My warband shows "the true cross" guarded by some priests. Many crusader armies acted in good faith to be invincible by wearing th cross in front of their army.
